Research in Design?

Where to use it

We're meeting as a group to think about upgrades to our processes at Mediamatic. One thing we'll be discussing, is how to incorporate research into our design and build process. Here are some notes for that discussion.

Phases in design

Research works differently at different phases of the design process. We can look at opportunities at each point in the process.

These are the basic steps in the design process:
1. Information Gathering
2. Planning
3. Design
4. Development
5. Testing and Delivery
6. Maintenance
From Selene Bowlby's blog.

What's missing?

What methods work best at these phases?

Here are some of the methods we can use:

1. User testing
2. Focus groups
3. Survey research
4. Research existing solutions
5. Google Analytics
6. Custom analytic tools
7. ???
