Layout and Design
Mediamatic Lab is both a new media and design firm. The in-house design team works with clients to design the look and feel of sites. The design team works both independently and in collaboration with other design firms.
Graphic design
We offer four different options for the design of websites:
Core design
We use basic page layouts then customize the look and feel using colour and font types. During a kick-off workshop, the client and our team discuss and choose the design of the site. See an example of core design on the MLNA community site.
Elaborate design
Mediamatic Lab conducts design research for the site. We explore possible designs during the kick-off workshop, which is followed-up by a presentation of design proposals and, eventually, the definite designs. The community site for Pakhuis de Zwijger is an example of an elaborate design.
Customized design
We work towards a final design in three phases. First we perform an extensive design research, we present a first design proposal and, taking client feedback into consideration, we present the final designs. Have a look at the website of Rhiz.eu for an example.
External design
Another option is to ask an external designer to do the graphic design. In this case, we will train the designer on our technical platform Anymeta.

Site structure
Central to our platform is how we structure our data. Our system links content of different types to one another. It also measures similarity between items so the page can display relevant content alongside the primary content. Editors can override these tool to explicitly choose which content is shown together. Juxtaposing and logically grouping content means that users stay on our sites longer as they browse through material of interest from one contribution to the next.
