The International Institute for Social History gave Mediamatic the opportunity to create a Digital monument for the Jewish Community in the Netherlands. This way thousands of Dutch Jews that died are remembered with the help of active participation by the public. The monument is managed by the Jewish Historic Museum since 2007.
The Digital Monument for the Dutch Jewish Community is an Internet monument dedicated to the remembrance of all men, women and children who were persecuted as Jews during the German occupation and were killed in the Holocaust. The site functions as a system for information, but is also a monument. It is a place of remembrance for a large group of Dutch people whose lives were destroyed and for a period in our history that we do not want to forget.
The Community Jewish Monument is an addition to the Digital Monument for the Dutch Jewish Community. 105.000 Dutch Jews that were killed have their own basic page in the community. Family and friends learn about their relatives and keep the remembrance of these people alive by adding information, such as family relations, pictures or a story, to the basic pages. This way a lively community is created that contributes to documentation and to the historical archive.
