L/TM a Browser National Browser Competition On April 17, 1998, the First National Browser Day took place in Amsterdams Paradiso, organised by the Society of Old and New Media. It revolved around the question of what the interfaces will have to look like in the future. Students from Utrechts Academy of the Arts and Amsterdams Sandberg Institute and Gerrit Rietveld Academy were given the assignment of developing a design for a browser within a month. The design had to be presented at the Browser Day. Connected to the presentation was a competition, with a total of 38 designs. The first prize went to Browser by Joes Koppers, while the second prize went to Vanessa Borcic and Hjordis Thorborg for their L/TM design. Both designs, in which the usual interface elements such as buttons and menu bars have been eliminated, will be explained further on the following pages. |
