An artistically romantic dream of artists, one also aspired to on the dance stage, is to abolish the distinction between dead objects and living material, between human and puppet. The idea of being able to remove from a person his own responsibility and know him to be safe in the hands of a higher power, is after all very provocative; the thought of having dancers at one's disposal who look like tin soldiers or chess pieces, with it unclear whether they are human beings or dolls, can be quite thrilling. |
