Creative Africa Network

Growing Cultural Directory for Africa & the Diaspora

An initiative of puma.creative, www.creativeafricanetwork.com (CAN) is a social networking website and growing cultural directory connecting the creative world within and outside of Africa. This latest project of Mediamatic Lab was launched at the Joburg Art Fair on 2 April 2009.

A network, Cultural Directory and Social Library

www.creativeafricanetwork.com is a social network, allowing individuals and institutions to create their own profiles. Aim is to give visibility to talents working in contemporary art, film, architecture, design, and the performing arts. It includes a cultural directory of people and events, providing professional information valuable to high-profile and emerging artists and cultural liaisons. A special feature is a social library where members can show and share their African art books.

Launch in Johannesburg, South Africa

The site was launched at the Joburg Art Fair on 2 April 2009. Here we quote Jochen Zeitz, Chairman and CEO of PUMA:

" The CAN project was developed by Dutch curator Macha Roesink, director of Museum de Paviljoens; Zimbabwean curator Raphael Chikukwa; French-Cameroonian art critic and editor Christine Eyene; and South African curator Mark Coetzee, who serves as program director for PUMAVision and chief curator of puma.creative. The website was designed by Mediamatic Lab, the Amsterdam-based leading new media and network company.

"We are delighted to be able to express our PUMAVision through this collaboration with the Joburg Art Fair and Creative Africa Network". Read the whole statement

Specially for this site PUMACreative wanted a new feature; a social library which allows members to show and share their African art books.
