Author in context. If you take a piece of art or a critique: the context in which a it ispublished has an influence on its meaning, be it traditional or new media. In new media, though, the question of the context has an added dimension in that new media bring together formerly separate media types simultaneously. Where would one speak of balance, conclusion and completion, when considering an interactive presentation? What is the piece about in its context? The author risks unclarity if she/he does not actively seek this confrontation by generating meaning in making very practical and explicit decisions via coupling or demarcation. june 6 - august 2 '98
